The Future Imperative

A mega-game about humanity’s response to climate change

The Future Imperative is a team-based mega-game about global solutions to tackling climate change. We ran a public play of The Future Imperative on Saturday 17th May in Stirling.

The Future Imperative is a team-based megagame where players will take on the roles of country leaders, UN officials, corporate interests and climate activists.

Set in the near-future, Future Imperative draws on real-life science and climate challenges to explore what global action on climate change might look like.

It is a semi-serious game. While it will encourage reflection on what solutions and challenges might look like, it also encourages players to be creative in the fictional world, and promises to create emergent story-telling as competing interests try to realise their objectives.

After decades of talk and inaction, humanity is at a turning point following a series of climate disasters.

Those who want urgent action create the Future Imperative, an international collaboration to drive forward the big solutions that the planet badly needs.

But the few with the most to lose have other ideas, while many feel that only with force can climate justice be achieved. Will humanity survive?

Future Imperative can be run as an educational event, a team building exercise, or a showcase event.

If you would like to discuss how Future Imperative can help you and your organisation think about global climate action, please get in touch.
